Tampa Bay Lightning Reassign LW Radek Smolenak to Norfolk of the AHL

Tampa Bay LightingTampa FL, December 14, 2008 - The Tampa Bay Lightning have reassigned left wing Radek Smolenak to Norfolk of the American Hockey League, it was announced by Executive Vice President & General Manager Brian Lawton.

Smolenak, 22, has skated in six games with the Lightning since being recalled on December 2, recording an assist and 10 penalty minutes while averaging 8:20 in ice time. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound native of Prague, Czech Republic, was drafted by the Lightning in the third round, 73rd overall, at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

He is in his third professional season and has recorded eight goals, 18 points and 93 penalty minutes in 23 games with Norfolk this season. He played in 56 games with Norfolk in 2007-08, tallying 15 goals and 26 points.

Smolenak played two junior seasons with Kingston of the Ontario Hockey League in 2004-05 and 2005-06, tallying 74 goals and 144 points in 65 games. He has also skated in 62 games with Johnstown and Mississippi of the ECHL the past two seasons, recording 22 goals, 28 assists and 49 penalty minutes.
