The Digital Art Gallery - Photo by Heidi LuxPainter and photographer Leni Betes, originally from Spain, is perhaps best known for her signature collection of delicate and life-like flowers (previously on display at Downtown Clearwater's Pangea Café in the Spring of 2009). Betes originally created one painting of each flower and reproduces multiple copies of her images through the process of giclée (a high-quality method of making fine art print replicas of paintings), and is now offering this process for hire at her Clearwater store, The Digital Art Gallery.

The new location of Intuition Salon and Spa - Photo by RGP MediaIntuition Salon & Spa, a downtown Clearwater fixture for over eight years, has expanded again despite a tough economy. On October 16th, Clearwater City Councilman John Doran was on hand to help cut the ribbon on Intuition’s new location at 432A Cleveland Street (entrance on Ft. Harrison). The space is over three times the size of the former location on Laura Street, featuring twice the facilities to service clients with everything from hair styling and mani-pedi’s to spa treatments. Intuition specializes in natural and organic products and services, and owner Dawn Shannon thinks this, plus excellent customer service, contributes to her continuing success and growth.

Food Inc by Robert Kenner Plays at the Tampa Theatre This AugustRobert Kenner’s  Food Inc., is a penetrating and scary look at the path our food is traveling to get to us. The food industry slams us with their messages of “eat our food”  Now we have someone fighting back with the truth about our food with the help of nutrition activists, including Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) and Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma). High-fructose corn syrup and its friend the E.coli virus are declaring war on national health, and federal agencies, lobbied by Big Agriculture, ain't doing a thing to stop it. Reason? Profits. The movie offers solid alternatives. If the way to an audience's heart is through its stomach, Food, Inc. is a movie you're going to love.

Grinch.jpg

You may have noticed that the news media “Grinchs” have been spreading fear regarding the economy. Most news reports, talk shows, and newspapers spew numerous reports about how bad things are, or how bad they will be.

According to the “Grinchs of Doom” our country is going down the tubes. Unemployment is up, retail sales are down all are touted as major indicators of the economy and how hopeless your future is. The fact is that you and I have very little immediate control over any of these things.

However, we do have control over our businesses, the quantity and quality of the product or services we produce, the speed we produce that product and the price we charge for it.
