Clearwater Downtown Boat Slips RenderingA portion of the funding for the Clearwater Downtown Boat Slips and Promenade project, currently under construction, is set aside for public art, and city officials are seeking public opinion on the type of artwork that should be installed at the project site. The Clearwater Public Art and Design Program, coordinator for the city’s artwork installations, is planning a public workshop to discuss the themes and types of artwork that that might be appropriate for the project. Information gathered at this workshop will aid the development of a national call to artists to solicit potential artwork and artists.

Bob NewhartAlthough Bob Newhart is a successful entertainer with award-winning television shows, multi-platinum albums, fourteen feature films and a book, he will bring his first love, stand-up comedy to the Ruth Eckerd Hall stage on Sunday, January 10 at 2:00 p.m.  His stand-up shows across the country and abroad have sold-out and he is the subject of a PBS American Masters documentary.

The Capitol Theatre was recently named a historical landmark by the Clearwater City Council - Photo by Heidi LuxThe Clearwater City Council voted unanimously to name the Capitol Theater and the Lokey Building historical landmarks. Both buildings are located on Cleveland Street in the Cleveland Street District in downtown Clearwater. This is the first such designation by the City of Clearwater for any structure.

The Digital Art Gallery - Photo by Heidi LuxPainter and photographer Leni Betes, originally from Spain, is perhaps best known for her signature collection of delicate and life-like flowers (previously on display at Downtown Clearwater's Pangea Café in the Spring of 2009). Betes originally created one painting of each flower and reproduces multiple copies of her images through the process of giclée (a high-quality method of making fine art print replicas of paintings), and is now offering this process for hire at her Clearwater store, The Digital Art Gallery.

Winter Wonderland will open on December 4th weather permittingAlthough, the “Miracle on Cleveland St.” and the city’s “Holiday Light Up” in Clearwater’s Cleveland Street District (Downtown), has been postponed until December 11th due to a 70% chance of rain forecast,  Winter Wonderland still intends to open the Christmas Village as scheduled on December 4th – 20th, weather permitting.

Miracle on Cleveland StreetOil is not the only thing that does not mix with water… neither does snow apparently.  Due to a forecasted 70% chance of rain that could turn 40 tons of snow into ice, the event organizers of Miracle on Cleveland Street in Downtown Clearwater decide to postpone the event until next week, Friday, December 11th from 5-10 pm.

Clearwater PoliceThe City of Clearwater will host a forum from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15 at the Harborview Center for the public to meet the four finalists under consideration for Clearwater’s Chief of Police position. The public will have the opportunity to ask the candidates questions and provide feedback to the city manager.
