Yamato the Drummers of Japan - Photo by Brad KuglerYamato, the Drummers of Japan infused Clearwater with a taste of Japanese culture at Ruth Eckerd Hall on November 22nd.

Energetic performers pounded drums of varying sizes with an enthusiastic vigor, each stroke sending a booming thunder resonating through the theatre and reverberating through the body. With muscular arms and strong physiques, they threw every sinew into each separate drum beat.

Fiddle group Barrage premiered their world tour Canadian music group Barrage recently launched their new world tour, Animado, and downtown Clearwater’s Capitol Theatre had the privilege of hosting the group’s rehearsals, as well as their world premiere opening night performance.

Helen Mirren in the Title Role of PhedreOn July 10th, The Capitol Theatre brought Helen Mirren to Clearwater. Sort of. The National Theatre in London premiered an experimental new program called NT Live, in which a play is performed at the National Theatre in London while simultaneously broadcast live via satellite to theatres throughout the world.

The Capitol Theatre participated in this experiment by re-broadcasting the event a few days later, as the satellite equipment to receive the live broadcast was $8,000. (The Capitol Theatre is still in its fundraising for renovation stage, so this money is better spent on new seats or rafters).

The first to open is Divino, a restaurant that combines both casual and fine dining. From the moment you walk into the restaurant, you are transported to a Piazza in Italy, surrounded by the balconies of fine dining restaurants above.
