To Haiti with Love: Hometown Help for Haiti

The Presidential Palace - Photo by Brad KuglerOn January 12th, at approximately 5:00 in the afternoon, the impoverished island nation of Haiti was rocked by an unexpected and severe tragedy. Although earthquakes are not uncommon in the Caribbean, quakes of that magnitude are. While there have been five major earthquakes reported in Haiti's history, the last was in 1860, and January’s 7.0 earthquake was the worst they have seen in 200 years.

DominicanKidsSmiling.jpgThe Global Pioneers, a group of volunteer Scientologists, made a name for themselves last winter and spring by visiting the country of Haiti in order to help the people. They did this by supplying the means to grow their own food, providing computers, and giving books and training developed and written by L. Ron Hubbard to the people of Haiti so they could improve their living conditions.

Recently, the Global Volunteers returned to the island Haiti is on, but this time to the other side to visit the country of the Dominican Republic.

Winter Wonderland 2008 Clearwater, Florida

Winter Train.jpg

Ding-Ding-Ding! Choo-Choo! All Aboard!

Come one, come all to the magical holiday festivities once again created by the Clearwater Community Volunteers, dubbed “Elves” by Santa himself.

If you’re already a faithful fan of “Winter Wonderland” I assure you, that this year has more surprises than ever!

However, while the Elves were busily working on “Winter Wonderland”, Pam Ryan Anderson (the Head Elf) received an urgent text from Santa.  The text said, “Ho, Ho, Ho, there are still a few in the community that are not aware that the festivities are open to everyone and, admission is FREE!” and his text continued, “Ho, Ho, Ho, some ‘naughty overgrown children’ otherwise known as ‘adults’ may have never even noticed ‘Winter Wonderland’ when driving up and down Ft. Harrison.”

The Birthplace of Clearwater Jazz Holiday

Clearwater

Ft_Harrison_Sign-in.pngOctober 15, 2008, Downtown Clearwater—On Wednesday the 15th of October from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., The Church of Scientology hosted a cocktail reception in the lobby of the Clearwater Bank Building to showcase to the public for the first time the new designs, handcrafted furniture and special features that will be part of the historic Fort Harrison’s makeover.  The building, which has been an icon in Clearwater since 1926, is being renovated from top to bottom to modernize its facilities and polish up its 1920’s splendor.  The announcement coincided with the Clearwater Jazz Holiday, which grew out of a series of jazz concerts held in the Fort Harrison during the 1970’s.

According to Chuck Adams, the co-owner of the former WAZE radio station and who was responsible for planning those concerts, “Back in those days, the Fort Harrison hosted the likes of jazz greats such as Woody Herman and his Thundering Herd, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Keaton, and Buddy Rich. That was when I realized how much Clearwater loves jazz.”
