A memorial service will be held on Monday at Hope Presbyterian Church, 8500 Walnut Grove, Cordova, Tennessee from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to celebrate the life of pioneering soul icon Isaac Hayes, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 65.

New Sculptures in Downtown Clearwater

Downtown_Street_Art.pngDowntown Development Board’s Treasurer Geri Aranjo and Vice Mayor George Cretekos attended the celebration of the City of Clearwater’s new outdoor art gallery, Sculpture 360: Art in the Cleveland Street District, and recognized the three artists whose sculptures are on exhibit in the Cleveland Street Medians. “Shanti” (meaning “peace”) by Claudia Jane Klein of Lake Worth, FL is one of three sculptures on Cleveland Street—located across from Starbucks and Jamba Juice.

Colonel Sarah MacKenzie of the 1995 to 2005 television show JAG, commenced the shotgun start at the Semi –Annual “Hackers Classic” Tournament at the Eastlake Woodlands Country Club. The tournament this year was generously sponsored by PostcardMania, Thermal Technologies Services, Inc. and Island View Estates.

Downtown Clearwater Poetry Walk

Artists in Action International and the Main Street Program are partnering to celebrate National Poetry Month with a day of poetry at various venues along Cleveland Street in downtown Clearwater. Saturday, April 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Venues will include Jim Warren Studio, Tony's Pizzeria & Ristorante, Gas Light Alley and Mission Beautification Gallery. Mz. Goose will conduct the youth and teenage readings at Gas Light Alley, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Other events will include the release of the Little Book of Cleveland Street Poetry, a pocketbook size chapbook of poetry related to downtown Clearwater, Clearwater Beach, and life on the Florida Gulf Coast.

Madam Speaker, I rise to introduce the Health Freedom Protection Act. This bill restores the First Amendment rights paul2.jpgof consumers to receive truthful information regarding the benefits of foods and dietary supplements by codifying the First Amendment standards used by federal courts to strike down the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) efforts to censor truthful health claims. The Health Freedom Protection Act also stops the Federal Trade Commissions (FTC) from censoring truthful health care claims.
